TODAY IS MY BIRTHDAY ~BY OUMEIMA MOUELHI

TODAY IS MY BIRTHDAY

Once upon a time in October I was born
Life in barren fields was, back then, reborn
In an autumn day, for the first time, I saw the light
Mama told me I was born at midnight,
a bewitching moment recalling Cinderella story,
recording myths of former nights
Like a delicate French music, I made my first cry
Like crystals falling from an angel’s eyes,
to my former world I said, ‘good-bye’
Dad always thought that I was a blessed child
He kept repeating it again and again,
from my siblings never being shy
Thrilled to bits for my arrival,
wished to see me grow up in liberty
Prayed to have me choose my own destiny
Upon my birth, the last leave of autumn trees,
stopped falling for the last time
Birds spread their wings, abandoned their nests,
and set to fly
And agitated storms in dark restless seas
were tamed, nearby
Church bells from East to West rang
Welcoming my coming to the world that hang,
crowns of rosemary on doors sprang.
Spring became my birth season, autumn no more
As flowers blossomed everywhere
Green grass forevermore
This is the story of my birth,
a story surely held at core!
