MOTHER MAY ~BY AGNES WONG
Sunny streaks rouse resting eyes to Mother’s Day
Showy songbird flutters over window to serenade
Sunny streaks rouse resting eyes to Mother’s Day
Showy songbird flutters over window to serenade
She dresses in a new,
trendy short dress,
Even if it causes her younger self distress.
Two flights down at fourth
And tenth, I enter the warped
Wooden doors, losing
Sammy “Too Smart” curses the nine ball
That rattles in the corner pocket but
Doesn’t fall.
In secret, hearts beat as one,
Longing to be together, under the sun.
She tended to his wounds with gentle care,
A love so strong, yet forbidden to share.
The moon notices a sunflower every day,
watching only the sun.
In the countenance of unlocked winds,
The moth-sustained night withers, and
Chicago, turning from drowsiness,
Across the distance, my heart remains,
Forever tied to yours, through joy and pains.
