I knew that we are poles apart. I knew this wouldn’t work out.
I still wanted to hold on – that no, maybe it’s not time yet.
We have together endured journeys, very heavy ones, 12 months across
Sometimes, I feel like with you, I can say anything.
But that’s not really true, is it? We’re Poles Apart
I can’t truly speak my mind without wondering what will happen afterwards.
I can’t truly make things right, or undo the things I’ve said,
once you’ve silently disagreed.
Your silence doesn’t bring peace.
It only seems to make the anger grow.
I can’t truly cry when you’re around,
because before my tears can be understood,
you begin defending yourself.
And the hardest thing to admit is this:
I can’t truly love you the way I want to.
Not because I don’t love you.
I do.
I care for you deeply.
But somewhere along the way,
you poured so much fury into my heart
that love stopped feeling like peace.
And now, even when I am beside you,
my heart remains unsettled.
I love you.
But I don’t know how to find peace while loving you like this.
We are poles apart.
