RUNNING ON EMPTY ~BY CHLOE BAUGHER

Have you ever knocked your head back to get the last bits of water out when you’re thirsty? You shake the bottle up and down vigorously, you only want the last bits of water. You shake and try hard to grasp onto it for a little longer. Maybe you should’ve used your water more carefully, rationed it better.

I think my water bottle is running low. The weird thing is, I’ve always been thirsty. My water bottle always seems to be the closest so I just let others drink out of it. Really, what’s the harm? I’m sure if I asked they would let me borrow theirs. You know what? I think I’ll ask right now. Oh, they said they were out. But I see them drinking their water right now?

What happens after you run out of water? Can you refill it? Everyone says that when you run out it’s over. But what’s over? The endless cycle of being thirsty? I can’t remember what it’s like to not be thirsty. What does it mean to be over? Maybe I should dump the rest of my water out, it doesn’t sound appetizing. I think I would be okay if it was over. After all, there’s not much happening, other than constant thirst.
