LOVE NOT BEAUTY
Love Not Beauty If You Cannot Perceive It
If It Know Not It Oath Or Wade Or Stroke:
Be Not Spellbound To Its Letters Or Dote.
Love Not Beauty In Unclever Disguise,
In Contentment’s Fever Born In Arise:
Be Not Foreshadowed As Its Silhouette.
Love Not Beauty Where It Never Dismay,
Know Not Its Tauntings And Teasing And Play:
Be Not Its Merry Companion Wherein Lie The Hind And Its Shadowing Sight.
Love Not Beauty In Evertiding Streams,
In Rivers Immortal Where It Drinketh Pristine:
Be Not Its Sentiment For Its Tides Fail To Swell Its Coast When Precipitation Comes.
Love Not Beauty In Some Fashion Unmagnetic,
Untouched By The Balance Of Lovers Dancing:
Be Not Unabode To Its Inner Fire And Let Its Flames Gracefully Flicker In Its Air.
Love Not A Rose Without Its Thorns,
For It Buds And Blooms All The While It Wanes And Swoons:
Be The Stillness And The Knowing Of Its Flower In Full Rain.
